Titans Extend Winning Streak To Five Games

Charlie Noone paced four Titan starters in double-figure scoring with a career-best 22 points, leading the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team to an 89-66 victory at Coe College on Thursday (Dec. 29) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

UW-Oshkosh (7-3), which has won by an average of 20.6 points per game during its current five-game winning streak, produced its highest scoring output of the season.

All 16 Titans in uniform saw action as UW-Oshkosh shot a season-best 54.9 percent (28-51) from the field. UW-Oshkosh took the lead for good at 34-33 on a free throw by Noone with 5:03 remaining in the first half.

Noone connected on 5 of 10 shots from the floor, including 3 of 5 from 3-points range, and 9 of 11 attempts from the free throw line. He added three rebounds and two assists.

UW-Oshkosh's Taylor Jansen had 15 points and three rebounds while Brett Wittchow registered 13 points and two assists, and Ben Boots 12 points, two assists and two steals.

Max Schebel rounded out the Titan starting lineup with five points, a game-high five rebounds and two assists.

UW-Oshkosh owned advantages in field goal percentage (.549 to .455), 3-point percentage (.619 to .522), free throw percentage (.870 to .700) and rebounds (31-19).

The Titans entered the contest ranked 13th in the country with 62.8 points allowed per game and 17th with a .783 free throw percentage.

The opening half featured six lead changes. A pair of 3-pointers allowed the Kohawks to reclaim a 14-11 advantage early in the period, but the Titans responded with a 12-2 scoring run for a 23-16 lead on a 3-pointer by Noone with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half.

Coe College's Nolan Timp scored 12 of his team-leading 13 points in the span of four minutes as he provided the Kohawks a 31-30 edge with a 3-pointer at the 5:52 mark of the first period.

A three-point play by Tyrone Moore gave UW-Oshkosh a 41-36 lead with three minutes to go before intermission, and a 3-pointer by Noone at the buzzer sent the Titans into halftime with a 47-43 advantage.

The teams combined to shoot 58.5 percent (31-53) from the field during the opening half, including 72.7 percent (16-22) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Titans drained 7 of 10 attempts from long distance while the Kohawks made 9 of 12 from 3-point range.

Clinging to a 47-46 lead early in the second half, UW-Oshkosh rattled off 12 straight points for a 58-4 cushion following a two-minute surge that featured consecutive 3-pointers by Boots, Noone and Jansen.

Coe College (5-5) pulled within 58-49 with 16 minutes remaining, but a 3-pointer by Wittchow increased the UW-Oshkosh lead to 64-52, and the Titans led by at least 12 points for the final 11:42 of the contest. Wittchow's long-range jumper sparked an 8-0 scoring run as the Kohawks were held scoreless for more than five minutes. A three-point play by Jansen capped the decisive run for a 72-52 lead with nine minutes to play.

UW-Oshkosh held its largest lead of 27 points at 84-59 on a jumper by Alex Van Dyke with 2:14 remaining.

Marshall Shedeck and Matt Meyer added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Coe College while Trevor Haaland chipped in eight points, a game-best five assists and two steals.

UW-Oshkosh avenged a 75-70 loss to Coe College in the first meeting between the teams last season.

The Titans return home to face Carthage College on Saturday (Dec. 31) in Kolf Sports Center.
