Dworak, Sims Selected To WIAC All-Centennial Team

The top two scorers in UW-Oshkosh history, Tim Dworak and Ralph Sims, have been named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Basketball All-Time Team. The league selected 17 players as part of its centennial anniversary celebration.

Dworak (2000-03) contributed to the best four-year run in school history. The Titans went 82-33 as he totaled 1,999 points and 784 rebounds. Dworak's point total is the eighth-highest in conference history. He also made 61 percent of his field goals, a rate that lists second in the WIAC.

During 2002, Dworak averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds to earn NCAA Division III All-America honors. The Titans finished 24-6, captured the WIAC championship and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the national tournament. Dworak then posted 22.7 points and 7.6 boards per game in 2003 for his second All-America award.

Sims (1975-78) holds the third-highest point total in league history with 2,303. He was voted a NAIA All-American in each of his final two seasons. During his senior campaign, Sims led UW-Oshkosh to the conference title with a 12-4 record.

Sims earned WIAC Player of the Year in both 1977 and 1978. His 1977 season featured 27.6 points per game and 56-percent shooting from the field. Sims also averaged 21.4 points to claim all-conference standing in 1976.

UW-Eau Claire placed five players on the all-time team with Tony Carr (1979-82), Gib Hinz (1977-80), Mike Ratliff (1969-72), Chester Smith (1984-85) and Frank Schade (1970-72). UW-Stevens Point accounted for three – Jason Kalsow (2002-05), Terry Porter (1982-85) and Tim Naegli (1984-87).

The remaining members of the squad were Merrill Brunson (1997-2000) and Ben Hoffman (1995-98) of UW-Platteville, Roger Kuss (1951-53) and Rich Melzer (2001-04) of UW-River Falls, Ty Evans (1993-94) and Aubrey Lewis-Byers (2000-03) of UW-Whitewater and Joe Werner (2004-07) of UW-La Crosse.

The WIAC is recognizing the outstanding individuals from the league's 100-year history. All-time teams are being selected in those men's and women's sports that have been classified as "championship" sports at some point since 1913. Additional teams will be released on a weekly basis throughout much of the 2011-12 academic year.

All-time team members will receive certificates from the conference and it is hoped that most, if not all, of the recipients will be in attendance or represented at the WIAC Centennial Banquet in Madison on Aug. 4, 2012.
