Schrimpf Collects WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award

Making the grade on and off the court, UW-Oshkosh's Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (WIAC) Max Sparger Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Schrimpf, a finance major, owns a 3.53 cumulative grade point average. He is a four-time member of both the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and UW-Oshkosh's Dean's List. Schrimpf is also member of The International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma.

Schrimpf started all but one of the 95 games that he played in during his UW-Oshkosh career. The three-year captain totaled 878 points 188 three-point baskets, 119 rebounds and 102 assists.

This past season, Schrimpf started all 24 games that he played in and averaged 9.3 points per contest. Schrimpf converted 94 percent (47-50) of his free throws and 35.7 percent (45-126) of his three-point shots. He scored a season-high 19 points during the Titans' 84-70 win over Benedictine University (Ill.) on Dec. 20.

In 2011, Schrimpf averaged 10.7 points as a starter in all 23 games that he played in. After missing the 2009 season with an injury, Schrimpf started 21 of the 22 games that he played in during the 2010 season and averaged 9.2 points per contest. In 2008, Schrimpf started all 26 games for the Titans and averaged 7.9 points per contest while shooting 93.3 percent (42-45) from the free-throw line and 46 percent (46-100) behind the three-point arc.

The only other UW-Oshkosh men's basketball player to earn the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete honor was Joe Imhoff in 1998.
