Titans Tame Lions For Second Time In 11 Days

Cory Wittwer (Jr. • Fall Creek) tallied a career-high 22 points as the UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team made its final 20 free throws in an 81-61 victory over Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday (Dec. 5) in Hancock, Mich.

The Titans' 95.2 percent accuracy (20-21) at the charity stripe was accompanied by 49.1 percent (27-55) shooting from the field and 43.8 percent marksmanship (7-16) behind the three-point arc.

UW-Oshkosh (4-3) also defeated the Lions (2-5) by a 78-68 count on Nov. 25 in Oshkosh.

Wittwer knocked down 7-of-10 shots from the field and all six of his free throws. D.J. Marsh (Sr. • Bayside) led the way with 25 points, five assists and five boards for UW-Oshkosh, which earned a rebounding advantage (37-33) for the 10th straight game. The Titans also got 10 points from Greg Schrimpf (So. • Manitowoc) and a game-high three steals from Paul Wojahn (Fr. • Oshkosh).

Finlandia University trailed 43-36 at halftime and was outscored, 38-25, in the second period. The Lions finished with 36.8 percent shooting (21-57) from the field, 4-of-15 connections (26.7 percent) from long range and 15-of-22 successes (68.2 percent) on their free throws.

Tyler Gordon marked 17 points, five rebounds and two steals to lead Finlandia University, while Anthony Grandberry tacked on nine points and Erik Bresette nine points and five boards. The Lions committed 21 turnovers in the game as the Titans took care of the ball with just 13.

UW-Oshkosh guns for a 2-0 start in conference play when it visits UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Dec. 9).
