Marsh Receives Third Straight All-WIAC Award

Forward D.J. Marsh (Sr. • Bayside) joined an elite group of UW-Oshkosh players when he received first-team mention on the 2010 All-WIAC men's basketball squad.

It was the third straight All-WIAC first-team award for Marsh, who also collected the league's Co-Player of the Year trophy following the 2009 season. Marsh joins Jim Capelle (2004-07), Brad Clark (1998-2000), Ric Kunnert (1988-90) and Ralph Sims (1976-78) as the only three-time All-WIAC first-team honorees in UW-Oshkosh history.

A total of 10 players were named to this year's All-WIAC first team. The selections were led by UW-Whitewater's Dustin Mitchell, who was named the league's Player of the Year after leading the Warhawks to the WIAC championship. Mitchell, a forward, averaged 18.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting 63 percent from the field and 66.4 percent from the free-throw line.

In addition to Marsh and Mitchell, the conference's nine head coaches also presented guards Jared Jenkins and Matt Moses of UW-Stevens Point, guards Eric Hostetter and Jerrel Enerson-Matthews of UW-Stout, forward Geoff Probst of UW-Eau Claire, guard Tony Mane of UW-La Crosse, guard Curt Hanson of UW-Platteville and forward Jake Smith of UW-Superior with first-team citations.

This past season, Marsh started all 25 games for the Titans. He averaged 22.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest while shooting 50 percent (184-368) from the field, 33.3 percent (17-51) behind the three-point arc and 86.4 percent (172-199) from the free-throw line. Marsh tied for the WIAC lead in scoring and ranked third in the league in rebounding and fifth in free-throw percentage.

Marsh tallied five double-doubles, including 38 points and 14 rebounds in the Titans' 90-87 loss to the University of Puget Sound (Wash.) on Nov. 27. He also counted 37 points and 11 rebounds in UW-Oshkosh's 100-51 win over Silver Lake College on Feb. 20 and 33 points and nine rebounds in the Titans' 87-75 triumph over UW-Stout on Jan. 16. Marsh scored 10-plus points in 23 of UW-Oshkosh's 25 games.

Marsh started all 105 games that he played in for UW-Oshkosh. His career totals include 1,800 points, 681 rebounds, 235 assists and 133 steals. Marsh also wound up shooting 51 percent (627-1,230) from the field, 33.2 percent (66-199) behind the three-point line and 83.3 percent (480-576) from the free-throw stripe. Marsh's career point total ranks third in UW-Oshkosh history and 15th in WIAC archives.

The WIAC also named Pat Miller of UW-Whitewater as its Coach of the Year and Andrew Haass of UW-La Crosse as its Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Selected to the WIAC's All-Sportsmanship Team were Colin Boone of UW-Eau Claire, Haass of UW-La Crosse, Greg Schrimpf (So. • Manitowoc) of UW-Oshkosh, Allan Ballweg of UW-Platteville, Spencer Shelman of UW-River Falls, Evan Sweeney of UW-Stevens Point, Chris Jardine of UW-Stout, Lucas Tellijohn of UW-Superior and DJ Dantzler of UW-Whitewater.
