No. 24 Titans Drop Close Battle to No. 8 Eagles

OSHKOSH, Wis.—A second half comeback fell short as the No. 24 UW-Oshkosh Titans fell 38-35 to the No. 8/8 UW-La Crosse Eagles this afternoon in the home finale.

The Eagles got off to a fast start, taking a 14-0 lead over the Titans early.

Coming out strong in the second half, the Titan defense shutout to Eagles in the third quarter as the Titan offense put points on the board.

Scoring Drives

Keyser Helterbrand ran the first touchdown of the day in for the Eagles of La Crosse in the first quarter. Helterbrand would connect with Matthijs Enters for the second touchdown and a 14-0 lead over the Titans.

Nolan Mobley got the Titans on the board with a field goal in the opening minutes of the second quarter.

Garcia would connect with Enters in the second quarter as the Eagles took a 21-3 lead over the Titans.

Kobe Berghammer found Trae Tetzlaff on a 15-yard pass for the Titans first touchdown of the day in the second quarter.

Helterbrand connected with Joey Stutzman on a 69-yard pass for the Eagles, taking a 28-10 lead at the break.

Berghammer found Tony Steger in the third quarter on a 16-yard pass. Berghammer kept the offense rolling, connecting with Jimmy Duval as the Titans trimmed the deficit to five.

Helterbrand ran the ball for four yards for the final Eagles touchdown of the day.

Berghammer added back-to-back rushing touchdowns to tie the game at 35 in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles' Ryan Beirne sealed the Eagles win with a 51-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Checking the Numbers

The Titans and Eagles were nearly matched in offense yards, as the Titans recorded 391 yards compared to 399 yards by the Eagles. Each offense saw their quarterback be sacked and split time of possession nearly down the middle.

Berghammer was 21-of-35 on his passes this afternoon, with 342 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

DJ Stewart and Peter MacCudden led the Titans in rushing yards, with 21 yards and 14 yards respectively.

Terrell Carey led the Titans in receiving yards with 135 yards on the day. Steger had 83 yards, followed by the league's receiving yards leader Tetzlaff with 83 yards.

Brandon Kolgen and Carson Raddatz led the team in tackles with 10 apiece, while Jared Tenpas recorded the lone sack by the Titans defense. The Titans recorded eight tackles-for-loss and defeneded against the Eagles quarterbacks, who had a combined 15-of-18 passes.

Road Warriors

The Titans hit the road for the final two games of the season. The Titans will travel to UW-Stevens Point on Nov. 5 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
