Tickets Available For UW-Oshkosh Football Banquet

NFL Hall of Famer Dave Robinson will be the guest speaker for the Russ Young Awards Banquet on Saturday, February 15 at the Oshkosh Convention Center. The fundraiser begins with registration at 3 p.m. and a meal at 4 p.m.

This will be the sixth annual banquet honoring UW-Oshkosh alumni, coaches and the previous football season. WFRV Sports Director Burke Griffin, a UW-Oshkosh alumnus, will serve as the host. Tickets are $45 and can be reserved by mailing in this form. For more information, please contact ttc-info@uwosh.edu.

Robinson played linebacker for the Green Bay Packers from 1963-72, winning Super Bowl I and II. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 3, 2013. During his 155-game career, Robinson intercepted 27 passes and made 12 fumble recoveries. He helped his team to a winning record in 9-of-12 seasons.

In addition to honoring its senior student-athletes, UW-Oshkosh will present the Russ Young Leadership & Achievement Award to former quarterback John Koronkiewicz. Koronkiewicz played from 1971-74, helping the Titans post an 8-0 WIAC record during 1972. He then coached Waupaca High School to Division 3 state titles in 2006 and 2008. Koronkiewicz was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame during 2008.

The Russ Young award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated the ideals of Young's legacy through their record of accomplishments in their career or cause, community involvement, moral character and positive contributions to the world of sports.

Young is the winningest coach in UW-Oshkosh history, recording 68 victories from 1963-76. He captured three WIAC titles while leaving a legacy of leadership and commitment to excellence both on and off the field. Young embraced the values of fair competition, mentoring others, leading by example and leaving a positive impact on student-athletes long after they left the football field.

The UW-Oshkosh football program is asking for sponsorships so the cost of each student-athlete's banquet is covered. We need 100 sponsorships at $30 apiece, and you can make your donation here.

UW-Oshkosh went 8-2 last fall for its third straight winning season. The Titans had 12 players receive All-WIAC honors, while Austin Blashka and Cole Myhra gained All-America status. UW-Oshkosh was ranked 11th in the final D3football.com poll.

This year's afternoon banquet allows the community to attend the women's basketball game between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater in Kolf Sports Center at 7 p.m. The Titans (16-1) are currently ranked 15th in the NCAA Division III, while the Warhawks (15-3) are 14th.
