Porter Selected To Play In USA Football Bowl

UW-Oshkosh center Garrett Porter gets to suit up one last time at the USA Football Bowl on Monday (Jan. 20) in Hoover, Ala.

Kickoff for the all-star contest is 1 p.m. at Hoover Met Stadium. The event also includes a national awards banquet on Sunday and a testing combine on Tuesday.

The game features seniors who earned All-America and all-conference honors from last fall. Players are divided into a pair of 66-man teams, the Admirals and the Generals.

During 2013, Porter became the second Titan to be named an AFCA All-American. He anchored an offensive line that averaged 32 points, 230 passing yards and 198 rushing yards per game. UW-Oshkosh led the WIAC with just 11 sacks allowed.

The Titans rushed for 208+ yards in six games, including 272 against No. 10 UW-Platteville and 264 at UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh also threw for 346 yards against Alma College (Mich.) and 328 at UW-Stout.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the USA Football Bowl. The game started in 1995 as the Division III All-Star Classic. Now, NCAA Division I-AA, NCAA Division II, NAIA, NCCAA and USCAA players are invited.

UW-Stout offensive lineman Daniel Grieber is also playing in the game.
