Porter Receives AFCA All-America Honors

The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has named UW-Oshkosh senior center Garrett Porter to its 2013 NCAA Division III All-America Team.

Porter joins quarterback Nate Wara as the only AFCA All-Americans in UW-Oshkosh history. Wara was voted to last year's team.

A total of 25 players were selected to this year's squad, including repeat award winners Armand Jenifer (offensive lineman) from Johns Hopkins University (Md.) and Seth Mathis (linebacker) from Bethel University (Minn.). The AFCA All-America Committee is made up of three head coaches from each of the organization's nine districts.

Porter, the lone WIAC representative on this year's All-America squad, started the final 24 games of his career. The Titans finished the 2013 season with an 8-2 record after going 13-1 the previous year. UW-Oshkosh's 2012 team captured the WIAC title and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship.

In 2013, Porter anchored an offensive line that led the league with just 11 sacks allowed. UW-Oshkosh's offense averaged 32 points, 230 passing yards and 198 rushing yards per game.

The Titans rushed for over 208 yards in six games this fall, including 272 against No. 10 UW-Platteville and 264 against UW-Eau Claire.

UW-Oshkosh also excelled in the passing game with a completion percentage of 64.6. The Titans, who averaged 8.9 yards per pass, threw for 346 yards against Alma College (Mich.), 328 against UW-Stout and 325 against Central College (Iowa).
