Titans Walk Off Blue Devils In Twinbill Split

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team beat UW-Stout 10-0 in seven innings in the first game of the Friday (April 26) doubleheader at Tiedemann Field, before losing 6-4 in game two.

The Titans (17-15, 10-8 WIAC) scored 10 runs on 10 hits with fourth extra-base hits in the series opener and held the Blue Devils (13-18, 7-15 WIAC) to just four hits and a walk.

Connor Brinkman (Jr. • New London) started for Oshkosh and finished all nine innings with five strikeouts to move to 5-2 on the season.

The first runs were scored in the bottom of the second inning when Nick Shiu (Jr. • Gurnee, Ill.) and Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove, Ill.) walked before Mason Kirchberg (Jr. • DeForest) doubled to right field, scoring Shiu. Taylor and Kirchberg both added runs when Braydon Skenandore (So. • De Pere) tripled to right center. Skenandore recorded the fourth run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Taylor made the score 5-0 with an RBI single in the third inning and the Titans reached home three more times in the fifth to further extend their lead. Taylor recorded his second RBI on a groundout and Kirchberg hit his team leading 11th home run of the season to left field for two runs.

Shiu singled Jack McNamara (So. • La Grange, Ill.) across the plate in the bottom of the seventh and Jack McKellips (So. • Oshkosh) sent the walk off run home with a bunt down the first base line, scoring pinch runner Logan Schill (Fr. • Pewaukee).

Brenden Max (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) and McNamara gave Oshkosh an early lead in the second game on a fielding error and a wild pitch after the Blue Devils registered an RBI single in the top of the inning.

The game was scoreless until Stout tied the contest up at 2-2 on a sixth inning wild pitch.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Kirchberg scored Shiu with a single to left field and McKellips hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Taylor.

Stout tied the game up in the eighth on a two-error play and reclaimed the lead on a two-run double.

Oshkosh put runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on a Skenandore single, a Carter Stebane (Jr. • Brillion) walk and a double steal, however both were stranded when the final out was recorded.

The Titans will host Stout again on Saturday (April 27) for their final two home games of the season before wrapping up the regular season at UW-Platteville on May 3-4.
