Stebane Scores Three Runs In Titans’ Loss To Seahawks

AUBURNDALE, Fla.- In the UW-Oshkosh baseball team's final game of the Russmatt Baseball Invitational on Sunday (Mar. 10), the Titans lost 21-10 in seven innings to Salve Regina University (R.I.).

The Seahawks (8-1), who played in the 2023 NCAA Division III Regional, are currently ranked 19th in the nation by D3baseball.com. The Titans (4-5) are receiving votes in the most recent poll.

Carter Stebane (Jr. • Brillion) scored three of Oshkosh's runs on Sunday, going 2-of-5 with a double and a stolen base.

Oshkosh's starter was Connor Walters (So. • Libertyville, Ill.), who went three innings with two strikeouts. He allowed 11 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits. He is now 0-2 on the season.

The Seahawks struck first, scoring three runs in the first two innings on a solo home run, a single and a sacrifice fly.

Owen Housinger (So. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second inning, scoring Nick Shiu (Jr. • Gurnee, Ill.). When Housinger stole second later in the inning, Stebane scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Jake Surane (Sr. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) tied the game up at 3-3, singling to the shortstop and sending Housinger home.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning on singles.

Nine runs were scored in the top of the fourth by Salve Regina. The inning was started by a two-run single and capped off with an RBI single. Nick Rector (Jr. • Sewell, N.J.) came in as relief in the middle of the inning. He pitched 2.2 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with a strikeout.

The Seahawks extended their lead to 10 runs in the fifth inning with a solo home run to make the score 14-4.

Stebane kicked off a four-run fifth inning for Oshkosh with an unearned run on a wild pitch. Brenden Max (So. • Libertyville, Ill.) scored on an Housinger double, Housinger stole home then ran home on a throwing by the catcher and Jack McKellips (So. • Oshkosh) made the score 14-8 when Zach Taylor (Sr. • Long Grove, Ill.) hit a bases-loaded single.

A two RBI single, three-run home run and throwing error pushed the Seahawks' edge to 20-8 in the top of the sixth before Shiu and Stebane scored on an error and single in the bottom half of the inning.

Parker Thompson (So. • Wauwatosa) pitched the final 1 and a third innings, striking out one before giving up the final run on a single in the top of the seventh.

The Titans will return to action on Saturday (Mar. 16) for a two-game day at Millikin University (Ill.) (6-6). They will play the Big Blue at noon and Benedictine University (Ill.) (8-0) at 3 p.m. Oshkosh will play another game on Sunday (Mar. 17) against the Eagles at 11 a.m.
