Titans’ Regular Season Ends in Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- The No. 15 nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh (24-13, 15-9 WIAC) baseball team's regular season ended on Saturday with two losses to No. 21 UW-Stevens Point (29-9, 19-5 WIAC).

Game One Recap- UWO 1, UWSP 9

The Titans' Cameron Mulvihill faced off against the Pointers' Nick Paulsen in the first game.

Quin Henwood flew out to Brenden Max in the bottom of the second, scoring Trent Van Ess, and giving UWSP a 1-0 lead.

UWO scored in the top of the sixth on a single to center field by Matt Scherrman.

Van Ess recorded an RBI in the bottom of the seventh on a single through the left side to score Bradley Comer.

The Pointers extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth with seven runs on eight hits. Payton Nelson recorded two RBI, hitting a double down the left field line.

Jake Surane went two-for-four with a run scored.

Mulvihill (5-3) was assigned the loss in 6.1 innings of work. He allowed two runs on five hits, six walks with five strikeouts. Paulsen (6-0) earned the win with five strikeouts and one run on six hits and a walk in 7.0 innings.

Game Two Recap- UWO 2, UWSP 3

Starting for Oshkosh and Stevens Point in the second game were Nick Loizzi and JD Schultz.

Nelson scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left field.

Surane and Zach Taylor gave UWO the lead with RBI singles in the top of the sixth.

UWSP tied the game back up in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to left field from Kyle Finger.

Finger homered again in the bottom of the eighth, making the score 3-2.

Jordan Skenandore (0-1) pitched the loss in 3.0 innings. He allowed a run on three hits with a strikeout. Mitchell Crawley (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 innings pitched, allowing no runs or hits and recording two strikeouts. Austin Syvertson threw a save in 1.0 inning. He struck out one and allowed a hit.

Looking Forward

The Titans will head to the three-day WIAC Tournament in Stevens Point from May 11 to 13 (Thursday-Saturday). UWSP, the WIAC regular season champion, will host the tournament and play as the No. 1 seed.  As the No. 4 seed, UWO will face the Pointers at noon on Thursday. No. 3 UW-Whitewater will face No. 2 UW-La Crosse at 3 p.m. The full WIAC tournament schedule can be found here.
