No. 21 Titans Win Both Games in Twinbill in Seven Innings

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The No. 21 nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh baseball team won both of their games over UW-Platteville in seven innings on Saturday (April 22) at Tiedemann Field in Oshkosh with scores of 11-0 and 14-2. Saturday was also Senior Day, and 14 members of the team were recognized.

Game One Recap

Connor Brinkman pitched against the Pioneers' Brady Hoppert in the first game.

With two on in the bottom of the second, Jake Andersen doubled to left field, scoring Nicholas Shiu and Chase Marsh hit a two-run single to left that scored both Connor Giusti and Andersen in the followed at bat.

Matt Scherrman sent a run in in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Ethan Schreier.

Three runs scored in the bottom of the fourth, all from a home run to left center that Scherrman hit, his fifth of the season.

Oshkosh scored their final four runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Jake Surane led the way, hitting a two-run double to right field.

Scherrman led the Titans in the game, going three-for-three with five RBI and a run scored.

Brinkman (7-0) earned the win with 7.0 innings pitched for his second complete game of the season. He shutout the Pioneers, allowing six hits and struck out seven. He now owns a 2.91 earned run average, the third lowest in the conference. Hoppert (2-4) was assigned the loss in 4.1 innings of work, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits and six walks with three strikeouts.

Game Two Recap

In the second game, Connor Walters faced off against Platteville's William Hough.

Oshkosh scored four in the bottom of the second. Two scored on a throwing error by Zach McCoy and two more scored when Surane singled up the middle to take a 4-0 lead.

Shiu hit his sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the third to make the scored 5-0. Marsh reached first on a throwing error by McCoy that scored Mason Kirchberg.

The Pioneers scored their first run of the day when Justin Fago singled up the middle to send Hunter Hopkins home in the top of the fourth. In the bottom half of the inning, Oshkosh tacked on seven more runs. Marsh and Scherrman each recorded two RBI with a single and triple, respectively.

Platteville scored again in the top of the fifth when Andersen committed a throwing error attempting to catch Grant Mullins stealing. Jordan Collins scored from third on the play.

Shiu sent Scherrman home in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 14-2.

Shiu paced Oshkosh in game two, going two-for-three with a walk, recording two RBI and three runs scored.

Walters (1-0) earned his first win of the season, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk. He also struck out two. Hough (1-1) was assigned the loss, pitching 3.0 innings, and allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

Looking Forward

The Titans will return to Tiedemann Field on Sunday (April 23), facing the Pioneers again for a doubleheader. The first game will begin at noon. Gameday reminders can be found here.
