Titans Sweep Rose-Hulman in Two Shutout Sunday Wins
TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- With two shutout wins over the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.), the UW-Oshkosh baseball team moved their record to 8-2 on the 2023 season.
Game One Recap
LJ Waco took the mound for the Titans in the first game and Ian Kline started for the Engineers.
Matt Scherrman drove in the first runs of the game when he doubled in the top of the third to send Jack McNamara and Chase Marsh home. Marsh joined in on the RBIs when he sent Nicholas Shiu home with a single in the top of the fourth.
Oshkosh scored the final runs of the first game in the sixth inning. When McNamara grounded out to the pitcher, Jackson Broom scored from third.
Waco ended his day after the eighth inning. By the time he was relieved, he had struck out nine while allowing eight hits and zero runs, giving him the win (2-0). Logan King came in to relieve Waco for the ninth, forcing three straight outs to end the game with a 4-0 Titan win.
Game Two Recap
Oshkosh recorded their first run-rule game of the season with a 12-0 win in the second game of the day in Terre Haute. Cameron Mulvihill started for Oshkosh while Michael Yager started for the Engineers.
After each time left one on in the first inning, Oshkosh scored first again in the top of the second with a Jake Anderson single. Rose-Hulman got two on base in the bottom half of the inning but couldn't reach home.
The Titans' largest scoring inning was the third, where they scored six to take a 7-0 lead. Jake Surane doubled to score Ethan Schreier, who had previously walked to start the inning. Surane scored the next at bat when Scherrman singled. After two more batters reached base to load them up, Mason Kirchberg sent a run in on a sacrifice fly and the bases cleared when Connor Giusti homered. Rose-Hulman reached base on the first two at bats in the bottom of the third inning, followed by two force outs and a strikeout.
Yager was taken out for the fourth inning by Schuyler Wilcox. He struck out Schreier to start the inning before giving up a triple to Surane. Oshkosh scored when Scherrman reached first on an error, followed by runs from doubles hit by Zach Taylor and Shiu in the next three at bats. Kirchberg hit a single to put runners on first and third and Giusti scored Shiu on a single of his own to make the score 11-0. Mulvihill forced out two and struck out the third again to get through the bottom of the fourth unscathed.
After Paul Durell replaced Wilcox on the mound for the Engineers, Scherrman recorded the Titans' final run of the day in the top of the fifth with a solo home run with two outs.
Mulvihill (2-1) recorded three more strikeouts over the following three innings on his way to his second win. He allowed four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in his first complete game and first shutout of the season. Yager was assigned the loss in 3.0 innings of work, allowing seven runs on seven hits including a home run and three walks.

The Titans play the Fightin' Engineers in Terre Haute again on Monday with a single game at 4:00 p.m.
