Titans Split Saturday Games in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team split their Saturday games in Lexington with a 3-2 win over DePauw University (Ind.) and a 4-3 loss to Transylvania University (Ky.). The Titans now sit at 5-2 overall.

Game One Recap

LJ Waco got the start for Oshkosh and Michael Vallone started for the Tigers.

Waco started the game with a three-strikeout first inning. Neither team scored until the fourth inning, with both teams going three up, three down in the second and third innings. DePauw scored on a double from Danny Glimco in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Oshkosh got two on base in the bottom of the inning but left them on when Nicholas Shiu lined into a double play. 

Chase Marsh sent Mason Kirchberg home in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game with a sacrifice fly to left field. Waco struck out two in the top of the sixth to record his eighth and ninth strikeouts of the day. 

The Tigers made the score 2-1 in the seventh with a fielder's score RBI by Kyle Boyer and got two more into scoring position before lining out to left field to end the inning.

In the eighth inning, Max Scherrman brought the game back to a tie, doubling to left and sending Jake Surane home. 

Logan King relieved Waco in the ninth. Waco finished the day with 13 strikeouts over 8.0 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs and a walk. King allowed a hit and forced three outs to get the Titans to the bottom of the ninth. Down to their last out, Connor Giusti hit a walk off home run off Holden Biffle who relieved Vallone in the eighth. 

King (1-0) earned the win with his one inning, allowing a hit. Biffle was assigned the loss with 1.2 innings, allowing two runs, two hits and a walk.

Game Two Recap

Cameron Mulvihill took the mound for the Titans in game two, facing off against the Pioneers' Connor Arnold.

Scoring started in the bottom of the second inning when Griffin Hall hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Henry Mitcham. The Pioneers scored again in the sixth with another sacrifice fly. Braden Becker hit a two-run home run in the seventh to give Transylvania a 4-0 lead. 

Chase Marsh hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth, followed by a two-run home run by Zach Taylor, also scoring Surane. Shiu walked the following at bat, but Kirchberg fouled out to third, ending the inning. Mulvihill got through the bottom of the inning, keeping the score at 4-3 headed into the ninth.

Oshkosh got two on base in the top of the ninth, but couldn't score, dropping their first game to Transylvania 4-3.

Mulvihill (1-1) was assigned the loss with 8.0 innings pitched. He gave up four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three. 

Arnold earned the save in 7.0 innings of work and Furtado's 2.0 innings pitched got him the save.

Oshkosh will play in Lexington again tomorrow in their second game against Transylvania at 11:00 a.m.
