Kohawks Come Back To Defeat Titans

The UW-Oshkosh baseball team's early lead did not hold up as Coe College (Iowa) defeated the Titans, 5-2, on Saturday (March 5) in Decatur, Ill.

Ethan Schreier's squeeze bunt plated Mason Kirchberg for a 1-0 UW-Oshkosh lead in the bottom of the second inning, but Coe College answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth frames before tacking on two more runs during the seventh and one in the eighth.

Schreier accounted for both of UW-Oshkosh's runs batted in following a grounder that scored Zach Taylor to trim the Titans' deficit to 4-2 during the seventh inning.

Coe College, which outhit the Titans, 6-3, was playing its season opener. UW-Oshkosh fell to 1-4 on the year.

Coe College starting pitcher TJ Deardorff, a 2021 D3baseball.com Fourth Team All-American, picked up the win, allowing one run (zero earned) on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in six innings.

Austin Divello notched the save for Coe College, limiting the Titans to one run (zero earned) on one hit with four strikeouts across the final three frames.

James VanHooser had two runs batted in for the Kohawks, who also received RBIs from Tyce Johnson and Mitchell Eckardt.

UW-Oshkosh starting pitcher Cameron Mulvihill (0-1), making his first career start, was charged with the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings.

Mason Kirchberg, Zach Taylor and Eric Modaff accounted for UW-Oshkosh's three hits.

UW-Oshkosh plays Coe College again Sunday (March 6) in Decatur.
