Titans Sweep WIAC Baseball Athlete Of The Week Citations

UW-Oshkosh swept the WIAC Kwik Trip Baseball Athlete of the Week awards as shortstop Matt Scherrman and pitcher Matt Wiechmann were honored for their efforts in games played Feb. 24 – March 1.

Scherrman was named the conference's top position player for the week while Wiechmann was chosen as the league's top pitcher.

Playing his first games as a Titan, Scherrman hit .286 (4-14) with one double and two runs scored during UW-Oshkosh's season-opening trip to Sauget, Ill.

The Titans compiled a 1-2 record in Illinois, including an 8-5 win over nationally ranked Concordia University Chicago (Ill.) on Feb. 29. Scherrman had two hits, both singles, and one run scored against the Cougars, a 2019 NCAA Division III World Series participant.

Scherrman also had one hit, a double, during UW-Oshkosh's 10-inning 4-3 loss to nationally ranked Webster University (Mo.) on March 1.

Making his first career start, Wiechmann allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings pitched to earn the victory during UW-Oshkosh's win over Concordia University Chicago. He struck out a career-best seven batters while issuing just two walks.

Webster University entered the weekend ranked 11th in the country while Concordia University Chicago was 21st.
