Titans' Victory Features 24 Runs, 26 Hits

UW-Oshkosh recorded its highest run total in five seasons during a 24-3 baseball victory over Springfield College (Mass.) on Friday (March 20) in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Titans (1-4) scored seven runs in both the third and six innings, four in the seventh and three in both the fourth and fifth for their best offensive production since a 27-6 win over Lawrence University in 2010. 

UW-Oshkosh broke a scoreless contest with seven runs on eight hits in the top of third inning. John Eagan singled twice in the frame while Tyler Kozlowski and Jack Paulson contributed run-scoring doubles.

Following a pair of unearned Springfield College (1-6) runs in the bottom of the third inning, UW-Oshkosh extended its lead to 13-2 with three runs in both the fourth and fifth frames. The Titans totaled three hits in each inning, including a run-scoring single in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the fifth by Kozlowski. 

UW-Oshkosh used five hits to score its seven runs in the sixth inning. Trey Demler led off the inning with a triple and tallied his second hit of the frame with a two-run double.

Springfield College, a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh, closed the game's scoring on Josh Sabitsky's single in the seventh inning.

UW-Oshkosh's 26-hit attack was led by the four from Kozlowski and the three each from Demler, Eagan, Paulson, Andy Brahier and Logan Reckert

Springfield College finished the game with seven hits, including three by Shane O'Leary.

Ben Messenger (1-1) started on the mound for the Titans and allowed five hits and two unearned runs in five innings of work. Adam Rude pitched a hitless sixth inning before Scott Gorsuch yielded two hits and one run in the seventh.

Luke Brown (0-1), the first of three Springfield College pitchers, took the loss after allowing 13 hits and 10 runs (nine earned) in 3.1 innings. 

UW-Oshkosh plays Hamilton College (N.Y.) on Saturday (March 21) in Auburndale, Fla.
