Michael Swift (So. • Kenosha) threw a two-hit shutout as UW-Oshkosh opened its 2013 baseball season with two convincing wins over Nichols College (Mass.) on Saturday (March 16) in Fort Myers, Fla.

Swift, making his first collegiate start, pitched the Titans to a 7-0 victory in game one. UW-Oshkosh (2-0) then used a pair of two-run triples from Tyler Kamps (Sr. • Appleton) to take the second contest, 11-2.

Polcyn got the scoring started with a triple off the wall in the first inning. The Titans added two more runs in both the third and fifth frames to make it 6-0. Zac Peterson (Jr. • Suamico) ripped a run-scoring double before Bobby Kachel (Sr. • La Crosse) and Tyler Kozlowski (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) added run-scoring singles.

Swift retired 14 men before allowing a single to Nick Shaw in the fifth inning. The only other hit for the Bison (0-2) was a single from Kyle Russell in the sixth. Swift walked two and struck out one over seven innings.

The loss went to Collin Geagan, who surrendered three earned runs in four innings. Chris Johnson pitched two innings and yielded two runs.

Kamps posted four extra-base hits on the day. During game two, he belted a triple to deep centerfield that put UW-Oshkosh ahead, 4-1.

The Titans tallied three runs – all with two outs – during the fifth inning. Kamps pulled a triple to right that scored Doug Beattie (Sr. • Escanaba, Mich.) and Luke Gajewski (So. • Wausau). Michael Polcyn (So. • Ripon) came up next and hit a double to bring home Kamps and make it 9-2.

Nichols College scored on a throwing error in the first inning and John Micciche's double during the third.

Nichols College's Tyler Shute was charged with four earned runs in the first three innings and took the pitching loss. Ray Curto then entered for the Bison and allowed five runs over three innings.
