Titans Sweep WIAC Weekly Awards

UW-Oshkosh teammates Derek Hiroskey (Sr. • Kimberly) and Jeremy Rubens (Sr. • New Franken) have received Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Baseball Player of the Week awards for their performance in games played March 21-27.

Hiroskey was named the WIAC Hitter of the Week after hitting .500 (11-22) with four doubles, 10 runs batted in and 10 runs scored. He also compiled a slugging percentage of .682 and an on-base percentage of .593 while committing just one error in 61 fielding opportunities from his first base position.

Hiroskey's best effort was against The College of Wooster (Ohio) on March 24. He led the Titans to a 17-1 victory by going 6-for-6 at the plate with two doubles and six runs batted in. Hiroskey's six hits tied a WIAC single-game record.

Hiroskey also tallied two hits and one double in UW-Oshkosh's 11-2 win over Otterbein University (Ohio) on March 25 and two hits and one run batted in during the Titans' 6-3 victory over the University of Scranton (Pa.) on March 26.

Rubens was selected as the WIAC Pitcher of the Week after holding Western Connecticut State University scoreless over nine innings on March 25.

The right-handed throwing Rubens led UW-Oshkosh to a 5-0 victory over the Colonials by allowing just six hits, all singles. His 91-pitch, complete-game achievement featured eight strikeouts and went without a walk. Rubens faced 32 batters during his fourth career shutout, with only two of them reaching second base.

UW-Oshkosh (9-1) went unbeaten during its six games played from March 21-27 in Fort Myers, Fla. The Titans put their nine-game winning streak on the line when they host UW-Platteville in a doubleheader on Saturday (April 2) at Tiedemann Field.
