Henshaw Named UW-Oshkosh Head Women's Tennis Coach

Robert Henshaw has been chosen as the new head women’s tennis coach at UW-Oshkosh.

Henshaw, who has more than 20 years of tennis instruction, comes to UW-Oshkosh from the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center, where he will remain as the organization’s program director and head tennis teaching professional.

Employed at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center since 2013, Henshaw has held previous head coaching positions at Ripon College and Kimberly High School. He guided the men’s tennis program at Ripon College in 2010 and the Kimberly High School boys and girls teams from 2009-11.

Henshaw also instructed a variety of age groups as a tennis instructor and tennis professional in Connecticut at New Canaan Racquet and Woodway Country clubs. Henshaw holds a Certified Tennis Teaching Professional license from the United States Professional Tennis Association.

“I’m extremely happy to be named the head women’s tennis coach at UW-Oshkosh,” Henshaw said. “I have been teaching and instructing tennis for a long time and can’t wait to integrate some of my principles back into a collegiate environment. I know several of the returning women, and I can’t wait to get things going in a few weeks.”

As a player, Henshaw competed for Neenah High School and was a state doubles champion in 1996. He was named UW-Eau Claire’s Newcomer of the Year and Doubles MVP in 1997.

“I’m very excited to have Robert take the reins of our women’s tennis program,” said UW-Oshkosh Director of Athletics Darryl Sims. “Robert’s tennis background embodies his work ethic, and his contagious energy will provide a strong vision for our student-athletes, both on and off the court.”

Henshaw, who taught biology at Bonduel High School from 2011-13, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 2008 from Northern Michigan University.

Henshaw replaces Daniel Bickett, who guided the UW-Oshkosh women’s tennis program during the 2014-15 season.

UW-Oshkosh begins its first season under Henshaw’s leadership at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Sept. 5.
