Titans Hold First Annual Take Down Hunger Food Drive

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh athletics department held its first annual Take Down Hunger food drive this fall, raising over 600 donations for the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry from the 19 intercollegiate programs.

"I am extremely grateful that we were able to get this food drive off the ground", said head men's wrestling coach Aaron Konitzer, who operated the food drive. "It's important during this time of year for us to give back to the community, and help those who may need a little extra as the holidays are in full swing. I appreciate UW-Oshkosh Athletics for their participation and contributions, and am excited to keep growing it each year!"

The swimming & diving teams worked together to bring 285 non-perishable food items to campus, the most among the 19 programs. They were presented with a team trophy that will have the winning team and year engraved on the plaque at the end of each drive.

Head men's and women's swimming & diving coach Christopher Culp was very proud of his team after they won the team trophy. "This is the time of year that we focus on giving.  We try to remind our team and ourselves how good we have it.  We all complain about the little things at times, but the reality is, there are a ton of people that are struggling day to day on things we take for granted, like food. We had fun with this food drive, we challenged the swimmers and divers in this event to be great and they truly stepped up."

UW-Oshkosh athletics aims to make the food drive an annual friendly competition and promote supporting the community during the holiday season in years to come.
