UW-Oshkosh Finishes 31st In Directors' Cup Standings

A fifth-place national finish in women's basketball and 10th-place performances in men's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field and wrestling helped UW-Oshkosh rank 31st in the 2022 Learfield Directors' Cup standings.

The competition, which began in 1996, is designed to recognize the best overall NCAA Division III athletics program in the country.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 516.75 points during the 2021-22 academic year to record its 22nd top-35 finish in the 25-year history of the Learfield Directors' Cup contest.

UW-Oshkosh scored 73 points (fifth place) in women's basketball, 67.5 (10th place) in both men's indoor track & field and wrestling, 66.8 (10th place) in men's outdoor track & field, 54.5 (20th place) in men's cross country and 50 (17th place) in men's basketball.

The Titans also earned 48.5 points with their 25th-place finish in women's indoor track & field, 32.5 with their 41st-place finish in women's outdoor track & field, 32 with their 33rd-place finish in women's cross country and 25 with their 33rd-place finish in women's soccer.

The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team's first-place finish at the 2022 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championship does not count toward the Learfield Directors' Cup scoring.

UW-Oshkosh finished 28th in the pursuit for the 2019 Learfield Directors' Cup with 488.5 points. The award was not presented in 2020 or 2021 due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In addition to UW-Oshkosh, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference had UW-Whitewater finish 13th in this year's Learfield Directors' Cup competition with 754.25 points, UW-Eau Claire 16th with 715.5, UW-La Crosse 21st with 680.5, UW-Platteville 69th with 251.75, UW-Stevens Point 83rd with 220, UW-Stout 87th with 213.25 and UW-River Falls 155th with 116.5.

Tufts University (Mass.) won the 2022 Learfield Directors' Cup with 1,080 points. The Jumbos scored in 16 sports, including 13 top-10 finishes, to capture their first title.

Johns Hopkins University (Md.) finished second to Tufts University with 1,043 points while Middlebury College (Vt.) placed third with 1,000.5, Massachusetts Institute of Technology fourth with 936.75 and Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) fifth with 922.5.

A total of 328 schools scored points in this year's Learfield Directors' Cup competition. Each school must count its highest NCAA Division III Championship finish in men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer and 14 at-large sports (no gender or sport requirement). Each national champion received 100 points in the scoring.

UW-Oshkosh achieved Learfield Directors' Cup top-10 finishes in 1996 (third), 1997 (fifth), 2001 (seventh), 2002 (eighth), 2003 (eighth) and 1999 (10th). The Titans other placements were 11th in 1998; 12th in 2007 & 2011; 15th in 2004; 17th in 2009, 2012, 2014 & 2016; 21st in 2008 & 2013; 23rd in 2010; 28th in 2019; 29th in 2000; 31st in 2022; 33rd in 2006; 34th in 2017; 37th in 2018; 38th in 2005; and 44th in 2015.

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today.
