Williams College Wins Third Women's Title

Williams College (Mass.) won the team title and Abrah Masterson from Cornell College (Iowa) claimed the individual crown at the 2015 NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championship hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday (Nov. 21) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.

Williams College won its third championship in program history, with the other two coming in 2002 and 2004. The Ephs scored 81 points to easily outpace the 179 points by runner-up State University of New York at Geneseo.

Williams College placed two runners in the top 10 and all five of its point-scorers in the top 34.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology finished third with 182 points, followed by three-time defending champion John Hopkins University (Md.) in fourth with 188 and Washington University (Mo.) in fifth with 193.

Rounding out the top 10 teams at the 36th edition of the race were State University of New York at Oneonta in sixth place with 217 points, Tufts University (Mass.) in seventh with 312, Middlebury College (Vt.) in eighth with 324, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in ninth with 337 and Willamette University (Ore.) in 10th with 338.

Masterson, a junior, finished the 6,000-meter course with a time of 21:24 to eke past runner-up Olivia Mancl from Willamette University, who ended with a time of 21:26.

Maya Weigel from Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) placed third with a time of 21:27, followed by Hannah Cole from Williams College in fourth with a time of 21:31, and Ruth Steinke from Carleton College (Minn.) in fifth with a time of 21:32.

Completing the top 10 individuals were sixth-place Sophia Meehan from Johns Hopkins University (21:32), seventh-place Kathleen Thorn from University of Wisconsin-Stout (21:33), eighth-place Lucy Ramquist from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (21:33), ninth-place Ellen Toennies from Washington (Mo.) University (21:34) and 10th-place Sarah Bradley from Millikin (Ill.) University (21:35).
