Titans Finish 15th At NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh recorded its highest national finish since 2009 by placing 15th at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championship held Saturday (Nov. 21) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.

The Titans, who received an automatic berth into the 32-team championship after finishing second at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Nov. 14, totaled 467 points for its 21st top 15 national finish in school history.

Williams College (Mass.), which owned two of the meet's top 11 runners, scored 81 points to win its third NCAA title. The Ephs also won national championships in 2002 and 2004.

State University of New York at Geneseo was the national runner-up with 179 points, while Massachusetts Institute of Technology finished third with 182, three-time defending champion Johns Hopkins University (Md.) fourth with 188 and Washington University (Mo.) fifth with 193.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-place State University of New York at Oneonta with 217 points, seventh-place Tufts University (Mass.) with 312, eighth-place Middlebury College (Vt.) with 324, ninth-place Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.) with 337 and 10th-place Willamette University (Ore.) with 338.

UW-Oshkosh was led by the individual performances of Kylee Verhasselt, Danica Harrison and Hannah Kuenzi. All three Titans finished among the top 141 runners, as Verhasselt completed the 6,000-meter course in a 70th-place time of 22:08.10, while Harrison ranked 103rd in 22:22.30 and Kuenzi 141st in 22:37.60.

The Titans also had Erica Munyan finish 164th in 22:46.40, Leah Rendflesh 185th in 22:52.70, Isabella Tremonti 226th in 23:11.00 and Kristen Linzmeier 244th in 23:21.20.

Cornell College's (Iowa) Abrah Masterson, who finished 39th at last year's championship, won this year's individual title with a time of 21:23.10.

Olivia Mancl of Willamette University placed second among the meet's 280 runners with a time of 21:25.40. Maya Weigel of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) finished third in 21:27.00, Hannah Cole of Williams College fourth in 21:30.30 and Ruth Steinke of Carleton College (Minn.) fifth in 21:31.40.

UW-Oshkosh was hosting the NCAA Division III Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships for the third time (1999 & 2011).
