Titans Finish 12th At Notre Dame Invitational

Competing against a large volume of NCAA Division I women's cross country teams, UW-Oshkosh finished 12th in the Gold Division of the Notre Dame Invitational held Friday (Oct. 2) in Notre Dame, Ind.

The 19-team meet featured 15 Division 1 schools, including Butler University (Ind.) which won the event with 108 points. The Bulldogs owned two of the meet's top four runners and had all five of their scorers in the top 44 positions.

The next eight teams in the rankings were Division I schools as well.

Indiana State University finished second among the group with 114 points, while Saint Louis University (Mo.) placed third with 125, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis fourth with 126 and Western Michigan University fifth with 170.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-place University of Notre Dame B (Ind.) with 172 points, seventh-place University of Northern Iowa with 180, eighth-place Eastern Illinois University with 197, ninth-place University of North Carolina-Greensboro with 237 and 10th-place and Division III North Central College (Ill.) with 276.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 301 points for its 12th-place finish. The Division III Titans were just two points behind the 299 scored by Division I UW-Milwaukee.

Hannah Kuenzi led UW-Oshkosh by completing the 5,000-meter course in a 36th-place time of 18:21. The Titans wrapped up their scoring positions with Kylee Verhasselt's 47th-place time of 18:35, Erica Munyan's 58th-place time of 18:43, Danica Harrison's 79th-place time of 18:59 and Cheyenne Moore's 96th-place time of 19:08.

UW-Oshkosh's other competitors at the meet were Isabella Tremonti, Leah Rendflesh, Courtney Holland and Kristen Linzmeier. Tremonti placed 98th with a time of 19:09, while Rendflesh finished 102nd in 19:12, Holland 116th in 19:39 and Linzmeier 142nd in 20:37.

Maria McDaniel of Western Michigan University defeated 150 other runners with her first-place time of 16:58. Katherine Turner and Olivia Pratt of Butler University finished second in 17:10 and fourth in 17:27, respectively.

The meet's other top five runners were Indiana State University's Taylor Austin, who placed third in 17:20 and Saint Louis University's Isabel Leibfried, who finished fifth in 17:31.

Next Saturday (Oct. 10), UW-Oshkosh competes in Appleton at the Lawrence University Gene Davis Invitational.
