Titans Sweep Falcons To Remain In WIAC Title Chase

Samantha Jaeke led all players with 10 kills on just 14 attempts as UW-Oshkosh remained in the hunt for a WIAC women's volleyball title with a 3-0 victory at UW-River Falls on Friday (Oct. 28).

UW-Oshkosh (26-6, 4-2 WIAC), ranked 23rd in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, swept the Falcons in set scores of 25-15, 25-14, 25-22.

With the win, the Titans stay one-half game behind 10th-ranked UW-La Crosse (21-4, 5-2 WIAC) and 14th-ranked UW-Whitewater (23-6, 5-2), which earned shares of the league championship with season-ending wins on Friday.

UW-Oshkosh can secure a share of its 13th WIAC title in program history with a victory at UW-Stout (15-12, 3-3 WIAC) on Saturday (Oct. 29).

Jaeke hit a season-high .643 with seven digs and three blocks to lead UW-Oshkosh to its sixth straight triumph over UW-River Falls.

Tina Elstner added nine kills, a match-high 14 digs, six service aces and three blocks for the Titans, who also received six kills on 10 swings from Carly Lemke, and four kills and a match-best five blocks from Nerissa Vogt.

Lexi Thiel amassed 30 assists while directing the UW-Oshkosh offense, and Rachel Gardner chipped in 10 digs.

UW-Oshkosh held advantages in kills (33-28), hitting percentage (.225 to .067), service aces (8-1), digs (42-38) and blocks (7-0). The Titans entered the match leading the nation with 297.5 blocks and 2.63 blocks per set.

The Titans collected 17 kills on .433 hitting in the third set while the Falcons hit .000 in the first frame and -.026 in the second.

Savannah Brauer paced UW-River Falls (15-15, 1-5 WIAC) with seven kills on .462 hitting while Amara Meyer and Dakotah Poitra added six kills apiece.

Raven Klein had 20 assists and 10 digs for the Falcons, who also received a team-leading 11 digs from Hannah Robb.
