Titans Record Sweep Of Pioneers

Tina Elstner had a match-high 13 kills to lead the nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over UW-Platteville on Wednesday (Sept. 28) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh (12-3, 1-1 WIAC), ranked 23rd in the NCAA Division III by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, defeated UW-Platteville in set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. The Titans have won their last three meetings with the Pioneers, including a 3-2 decision last season in Platteville.

Brooke Brinkman added nine kills for UW-Oshkosh, which also received eight kills and two service aces from Samantha Jaeke, and 31 assists and two blocks from Lexi Thiel.

The Titans' Renee Rush matched her career high with five kills while Rachel Gardner and Nerissa Vogt led the team with eight digs and three blocks, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh held considerable advantages in kills (39-28), hitting percentage (.330 to .162) and service aces (7-2). The Titans, who established a season-best hitting percentage, collected 15 kills on .333 hitting in the opening set and 15 kills with a .444 percentage in the final frame.

UW-Platteville (5-12, 0-2 WIAC) raced out to a 5-2 lead in the first set before the Titans rallied to tie the score at 8. Knotted at 12, UW-Oshkosh scored the next five points for a 17-12 advantage. After the Pioneers pulled within 21-19, the Titans recorded four of the final five points of the set.

The Pioneers scored four of the first five points of the second set, but UW-Oshkosh went on a six-point run to claim a 15-8 lead and maintained a cushion of at least five points for the remainder of the frame.

Tied at 6 in the final set, the Titans secured the sweep by registering nine of the next 11 points for a commanding 15-8 advantage. UW-Oshkosh went on to lead by as many as 10 points at 24-14.

Allison Jansen paced UW-Platteville with 10 kills and three blocks while Ashlee Moore chipped in nine kills and three blocks. Allie Carter and Alyssa Wawrzyniakowski collected 10 and nine assists, respectively, while sharing setting duties for the Pioneers, who also received a match-best 14 digs from Grace Austin.

The Titans host the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 30-Oct. 1) in Kolf Sports Center. UW-Oshkosh plays Trinity University (Texas) and Alma College (Mich.) on Friday, and Saint Mary's College (Ind.) and Dominican University (Ill.) on Saturday.

Also appearing at the 10-team UW-Oshkosh Invitational are 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater, 18th-ranked Elmhurst College (Ill.), 19th-ranked UW-La Crosse, and Carthage and Edgewood colleges.
