Titans Swept By Blugolds In WIAC Finale

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team concluded WIAC play with a 3-0 loss to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 26) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Eau Claire (16-14/6-2 WIAC) took the match in set scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-22 to finish second in the WIAC standings for the second straight year.

Depending upon the outcome of Wednesday's (Oct. 30) match between UW-Whitewater and UW-Platteville, UW-Oshkosh (19-10/4-4 WIAC) will finish either fourth or fifth in this year's conference rankings. The Titans placed fifth a year ago.

UW-Eau Claire jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set and held control throughout. The Titans clawed back to make the score 23-19, but the Blugolds closed the set with three of the last four points.

UW-Oshkosh took an early 4-3 lead in the second set. UW-Eau Claire then scored five straight points to take the lead for good. The Titans got as close as 12-11, but the Blugolds responded with a 6-1 scoring run to take an 18-12 lead. UW-Eau Claire finished the set with three straight points.

In the third set, UW-Oshkosh went ahead 6-1 before UW-Eau Claire rallied with a 14-7 scoring run. UW-Oshkosh took a 22-21 lead, but UW-Eau Claire answered with four straight points to win the set.

UW-Oshkosh hit .195 as Jessica Fischer totaled 11 kills and Jordyn Bratel, Katelyn Malcheski and Nerissa Vogt eight each. The Titans also received 21 assists and 14 digs from Alison Tomczyk, 14 assists from Alexis Thiel and 22 digs from Mandy Trautmann.

Kelly Schuh had a match-high 15 kills for UW-Eau Claire. Maggie Holcombe contributed 35 assists, five kills and four digs, while Lauren Sutherland added 21 digs. The Blugolds hit .250 for the contest, including .324 in the first set.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Connecticut and New York for three matches this weekend. The Titans play at Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday (Nov. 1) before battling the University of Massachusetts-Boston and host Vassar College (N.Y.) in a triangular on Saturday (Nov. 2).

UW-Oshkosh opens play in the six-team WIAC Tournament on Nov. 5.
