Eagles Defeat Titans In Five Sets

UW-Oshkosh had its six-match winning streak snapped with a five-set loss to the UW-La Crosse women's volleyball team on Wednesday (Oct. 26) in La Crosse.

The Eagles took the first set 25-22 behind an 8-3 run halfway through the set. The score was tied 12-12 early on before UW-La Crosse's streak.

The second set went back and forth as well, before UW-Oshkosh earned four of the final six points to take the set 25-22.

With the match all square at one, the Eagles again jumped out to a lead by winning the third set 25-20. Trailing 17-15, UW-La Crosse rallied off eight straight points to essentially seal the victory.

Facing a loss, the Titans dominated the fourth set 25-16. UW-Oshkosh had four runs of three or more points and scored five of the final six.

In the last set, UW-La Crosse jumped out to a 9-4 lead. The Titans came back to within one as the Eagles led 12-11, but UW-La Crosse scored the final three points to win the set 15-11 and take the match.

The Titans had a balanced offensive attack, with four players having nine or more kills. Reigning WIAC player of the week Katelyn Malcheski led the way for UW-Oshkosh with 14.

Alison Tomczyk topped the Titans with 25 assists and Alexis Thiel added 22 more. Mandy Trautman scooped 12 balls to lead the Titans.

The Eagles were led on offense by Lauren Probst, who had 19 kills. Cassie Raduka had 43 of the team's 46 assists in the match. Leading the way on defense for UW-La Crosse was Courtney Geisler, who marked 12 digs.

Next on the schedule for UW-Oshkosh is a home matchup with UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 26. It is the Titans' final conference clash of the season.
