Titans Sweep Vikings On Final Day Of UW-Whitewater Invite

UW-Oshkosh recorded its first women's volleyball win of the season by sweeping Lawrence University at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Saturday (Aug. 31) in Whitewater.

The Titans, who lost both of their tournament matches on Friday (Aug. 30), began Saturday's action with a 3-0 win over Lawrence University. UW-Oshkosh (1-3) took the match in set scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 25-21.

UW-Oshkosh earned its victory over Lawrence University by hitting .383 with 45 kills and six service aces. Jordyn Bratel tallied nine kills and Brooke Brinkman and Katelyn Malcheski eight each to lead all players. The Titans also received 14 digs from Mandy Trautmann, 18 assists and six digs from Alison Tomczyk and six kills, five digs and two service aces from Laura Trochinski.

Lawrence University (1-2) hit .000 and received six kills from Megan Conley. The Vikings also acquired 14 assists and eight digs from Diane McLeod and 12 digs from Kathleen Rowland.

UW-Oshkosh closed out the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Carthage College. The Lady Reds (3-0) grabbed the victory in set scores of 29-27, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-15.

Bratel led UW-Oshkosh with 13 kills and seven digs, while Malcheski contributed 11 kills and seven digs and Jessica Fischer added 10 kills and nine digs. The Titans also obtained 22 assists and nine digs from Tomczyk, 19 assists and four kills from Alexis Thiel, 28 digs from Trautmann and 15 digs from Robyn Eggert.

UW-Oshkosh hit .250 for the match, including .400 in the first set.

Carthage College's Angelica Walinski turned in a strong effort by totaling 20 kills and seven digs. The Lady Reds also received 14 kills from Emily Heuermann, 10 kills from Rachel Mickey, 54 assists and 12 digs from Karen Chin, 24 digs from Sara Shumaker and eight kills and 19 digs from Rachel Fields.

The Lady Reds hit .293 for the contest.

UW-Oshkosh kicks off its home schedule with matches on Wednesday (Sept. 4) in Kolf Sports Center against Edgewood College and the University of Dubuque (Iowa).
