Titans Swept In Season Debut

The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team opened the 2013 season with a pair of defeats at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Friday (Aug. 30) in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh fell in its first match by a 3-2 score to Transylvania University (Ky.). The Pioneers took the contest in sets of 25-20, 16-25, 26-24, 25-27 and 15-12.

Katelyn Malcheski led the Titans with 14 kills, while Jordyn Bratel contributed nine and Nerissa Vogt eight. Alison Tomczyk owned a team-best 21 assists and Mandy Trautmann a team-high 22 digs. Morgan Cizauskas also tallied 20 assists and nine digs. Bratel's four solo blocks led UW-Oshkosh.

Transylvania University (1-1) received 16 kills from Meghan Bowers, 15 from Erin Romito and 13 from Lauren Ketron. The Pioneers also obtained match bests of 54 assists from Berkleigh Brogan and 35 digs from Audrey Brown.

UW-Oshkosh finished the contest hitting .255 and Transylvania University .205.

Wheaton College (Ill.) swept UW-Oshkosh (0-2) by a 3-0 score in the nightcap. The Thunder (1-1) won the sets in results of 25-23, 26-24 and 25-19.

UW-Oshkosh hit .126 for the match and totaled only 28 kills. Brooke Brinkman paced the Titans with nine kills, while Hayley Rickmeier contributed six. Cizauskaus and Tomczyk led UW-Oshkosh with 12 assists each. Trautmann marked a team-best 10 digs.

The 14 kills of Maddie McGinnis, 21 assists of Lauren Wilhite and 11 digs of Kelli Manning led Wheaton College. The Thunder also benefited from Ashley Torok's 20 assists and four digs.

Wheaton College, which surrendered nine points to the Titans on service errors, hit .263 for the match.

UW-Oshkosh concludes play at the UW-Whitewater Invitational with matches on Saturday (Aug. 31) against Lawrence University and Carthage College. The Titans defeated both teams a year ago.
