Titans Settle For Fourth Place In WIAC Tournament

UW-Whitewater captured the third-place match of the WIAC Women's Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Nov. 3) in Stevens Point.

The 18th-ranked Warhawks (25-11) defeated the Titans (20-19) for the third time this season by posting winning scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20.

UW-Whitewater hit .288 for the match, including .351 in the third set. UW-Oshkosh hit .200, highlighted by a .308 mark in the first set.

Katelyn Malcheski (Fr. • Little Suamico) led the Titans with seven kills, while Jordyn Bratel (Jr. • Milwaukee), Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) and Brianna Wagner (Fr. • Sheboygan) tallied six each. UW-Oshkosh also obtained 26 assists from Morgan Cizauskas (Fr. • Mukwonago) and 12 digs from Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.).

Leanna Lillge paced UW-Whitewater with 13 kills and eight digs. The Warhawks also received 10 kills from Kristen Ruchti, 41 assists and eight digs from Kim Frei and 11 digs from Kelsey Nobilio.

During the first set, UW-Whitewater pulled away from a 17-17 tie with six straight points. The second set was tied at 18 before UW-Whitewater tallied seven of the remaining eight points. UW-Oshkosh built a 12-6 advantage in the third set, but UW-Whitewater answered with an 11-1 scoring run to gain control.

UW-Oshkosh finished the year with 20-plus wins for the 13th time in 14 seasons.
