Titans Sweep Two Of Four Matches In Minnesota

UW-Oshkosh recorded its sixth 3-0 victory of the year as it went 2-2 at the Bethany Lutheran College Volleyball Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 7-8) in Mankato, Minn.

On Friday, the Titans (6-4) were involved in a pair of 3-0 sweeps as they fell to Wartburg College (Iowa) and defeated St. Catherine University (Minn.). UW-Oshkosh then lost by a 3-1 count to Saint Mary's University (Minn.) and posted a 3-0 win over Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) on Saturday.

The first two sets against Wartburg required extra time. The Knights clinched the victory with scores of 26-24, 26-24 and 25-16. Jordyn Bratel (Jr. • Milwaukee) stood out with 12 kills and nine digs for UW-Oshkosh. Britlyn Sieck racked up 12 kills for Wartburg, which out-hit the Titans, .283 to .188.

UW-Oshkosh bounced back minutes later for a 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 triumph over St. Catherine. During the first and second games, the Titans hit .316 and .343. After seeing a 20-9 lead dwindle in the third set, Heidi Gors (Sr. • Madison) slammed down the match's final point. Presley Neuman (So. • Appleton) paced the Titans with 11 kills, while Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend) scored an impressive 38 assists.

Saint Mary's got by UW-Oshkosh with set scores of 25-23, 25-15, 11-25 and 25-22. The Titans held a 23-19 lead in the opening game, but the Cardinals rallied for six straight points. That momentum continued in the second set when Saint Mary's attained a quick 11-4 cushion. Four Cardinals tallied double-digit digs, led by 19 from Lex Krogstad. UW-Oshkosh received 20 digs from Danielle Stoppenbach (So. • Burlington) and 35 assists from Liebetrau.

The Titans committed just one hitting error in the first set against Bethany Lutheran to gain the 25-10, 25-18, 25-21 victory. In the second game, UW-Oshkosh exploded for nine points in a row to go ahead, 16-3. The Vikings finished with a hitting percentage of .000, while the Titans came in at .269. Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) led UW-Oshkosh with nine kills during the match.

For the tournament, Wagner tallied 32 kills, to go with 28 by Gors and 26 by Krumplitsch. Liebetrau handled the setting duties with 117 assists, while Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.) tracked down 67 digs. Gors and Neuman were credited with nine blocks each.

UW-Oshkosh will play two matches in Appleton on Tuesday (Sept. 11).
