Titans Perfect In Wins Over Eagles, Spartans

UW-Oshkosh won all six sets during dominating victories over the Edgewood College and University of Dubuque (Iowa) volleyball teams on Tuesday (Sept. 4) in Madison.

The Titans (4-2) cruised past Edgewood (3-2) by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-15. In the opening game, the score was tied at 10 before UW-Oshkosh ran off seven straight points. The Titans hit .351 during the second set and posted a 14-5 scoring streak during the third to clinch the win.

Heidi Gors (Sr. • Madison) and Brianna Wagner (Fr. • Sheboygan) each hammered eight kills to lead the way. UW-Oshkosh also received 27 assists from Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend) and 27 digs by Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.).

For the match, the Titans out-hit the Eagles, .206 to -.063. Edgewood College totaled 10 hitting errors and just four kills during the third set. The Eagles were led by Sarah Schuchhardt, who marked eight kills, and Lindsey Swansby, who booked 12 assists and seven digs.

UW-Oshkosh bolted to leads of 4-0 and 14-6 during the first set against Dubuque (3-2). The Titans ended up defeating the Spartans by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-20. The final games were never in doubt, as UW-Oshkosh took advantages of 10-2 in the second set and 14-5 in the third.

Wagner, Jordyn Bratel (Jr. • Milwaukee) and Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) each tallied seven kills during the match. The Titans also benefitted from 19 assists by Liebetrau, 10 assists by Morgan Cizauskas (Fr. • Mukwonago) and eight digs by Rachel Smith (Fr. • Cottage Grove).

Dubuque's Klaudia Basierak topped all players with 13 kills. Meggie Schmidt showed off her versatility by compiling 18 assists and 14 digs. Nicole Toro also dug out 14 shots for the Spartans.

Both teams recorded their best conversion rate during the second set, when UW-Oshkosh hit .364 and Dubuque came in at .091. For the night, the Titans finished with .198 hitting compared to the Spartans' .046.

UW-Oshkosh has four matches scheduled at the Bethany Lutheran College Invitational, beginning Friday (Sept. 7) in Mankato, Minn.
