Titans Win Tadd Metzger Invitational Title

Lauren Wrensch won the 400-meter run and long jump, Erica Lorenz the pentathlon and both Megan Leahy and Sydney Rau the pole vault as the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team captured first place at Carthage College's Tadd Metzger Invitational held Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26) in Kenosha.

UW-Oshkosh scored 138 points to defeat 10 other teams, including second-place Wheaton College (Ill.) which totaled 104 points and third-place Carthage College which computed 85. UW-Oshkosh entered the meet ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Rounding out the top six teams were fourth-place Carroll University with 79 points, fifth-place Aurora University (Ill.) with 77 and sixth-place Elmhurst College (Ill.) with 64.

Wrensch defeated 22 other competitors in the 400-meter run with her winning time of 59.54 seconds and 26 other participants in the long jump with her first-place leap of 18-8 3/4. She owns the top Division III long jump measurement in the country with her mark of 19-3 1/4 established at the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational held Dec. 1.

Lorenz scored 2,725 points to beat five other contestants in the pentathlon while Leahy and Rau marked a height of 11-1 3/4 to oust nine other challengers in the pole vault.

In addition to Wrensch's finish in the 400-meter run, UW-Oshkosh also had Lindsay Denu place third in the race with a time of 1:01.94, Alexandra Demco fourth in 1:03.64, Rau fifth in 1:04.40 and Melissa Srnka sixth in 1:04.95.

The Titans had four second-place finishes as Morgan Endries ran to a time of 27.62 seconds in the 200-meter dash, Sadie Huth measured a distance of 17-9 1/2 in the long jump, Ashton Keene ran to a time of 5:19.80 in the mile run and Alexis Reichardt leaped to a height of 4-11 in the high jump.

UW-Oshkosh scored in three areas of both the 55-meter hurdles and 20-pound weight throw. The 55-meter hurdles had Huth finish fourth with a time of 8.97 seconds, Katie Retzlaff fifth in 9.11 and Grace Tempesta seventh in 9.19 while the 20-pound weight throw had Allie Marineau place third with a mark of 51-11, Mikaela Zolecki fourth at 51-1 and Kahley Logan eighth at 46-11.

The Titans' remaining fourth-place finish came in the 1,600-meter relay, where Demco, Reichardt, Srnka and Symantha Benzing raced to a time of 4:20.33.

UW-Oshkosh's Jenna Trione contributed a fifth-place score of 2,246 points in the pentathlon.

The Titans completed their sixth-place mentions with Reichardt's time of 2:27.26 in the 800-meter run and the measurements of 16-8 3/4 in the long jump by Retzlaff, 33-5 3/4 in the triple jump by Danae Prange and 38-8 1/4 in the shot put by Logan.

UW-Oshkosh also had Elizabeth Reddeman finish seventh in the mile run with a time of 5:41.20, Kiley Lynch-Youngman seventh in the triple jump with a skip of 32-11 and Taya Fleischman eighth in the shot put with a toss of 36-9.

The Titans will compete next Saturday (Feb. 2) at the Ripon College Invitational.
