Titans Finish Third At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh captured four individual titles and one relay victory at the WIAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Friday and Saturday (May 1-2) in La Crosse.

Kylee Verhasselt held off Rachel Atchison of UW-La Crosse and the rest of the field in the 800-meter run by finishing in 2:11.08 to claim first place.

Three other events were won in the field for the Titans. Kasey Ederer won the high jump at the 5-6 1/2, while Jecel (Gerner) Klotz produced the top distance in the shot put at 48-8. Melanie Brickner recorded a winning toss of 193-6 in the hammer throw.

The UW-Oshkosh 3,200-meter relay team of Isabella Tremonti, Kristen Linzmeier, Sonny Jenkins, and Verhasselt combined for a first-place time of 9:15.68.

As a team, UW-Oshkosh finished in third with 121 points. Host La Crosse scored 233.83 points to win the meet for the fourth straight.

UW-Eau Claire placed second in the nine-team meet with 131 points, while UW-Stevens Point was fourth with 105. UW-Whitewater rounded out the top five with 98.33 points.

UW-Oshkosh's Taylor Sherry participated in the two-day heptathlon and finished second with 4,781 points.

The Titans' 400-meter relay team also finished second in 47.34 seconds as Samantha Blue, Emily Reichenberger, Ashley Holicek, and Becklyn Hunter participated.

UW-Oshkosh's lone third-place finisher was Brickner. She calculated a toss of 47-6 1/2 in the shot put.

Finishing fourth for the Titans were Emily Reichenberger with a 200-meter dash of 24.56, Leah Rendflesh in the 10,000 meter run at 38:27.07, Sherry with a 100-meter hurdle time of 14.36 seconds and Lizzy Abhold with a mark of 168-10 in the hammer throw.

The Titan 1,600-meter relay registered a time of 3:56.22 to also place fourth.

A pair of athletes had fifth-place efforts. Reichenberger sprinted the 100-meter dash in 12.14 seconds and Alyssa Ryan reached 11-2 1/4 in the pole vault.

The Titans' sixth-place performances belonged to Megan Geldernick with a 100-meter hurdle time of 14.52, Hunter in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.73 seconds and Blue with a leap of 17-11 in the long jump.

A trio of athletes recorded seventh-place finishes. Danica Harrison recorded a time of 4:53.28 in the 1,500-meter run, Amanda Shober leaped to 37-7 1/4 in the triple jump and Rendflesh ran to a time of 19:01.70 in the 5,000-meter run.

Taking eighth place for UW-Oshkosh were Cheyenne Moore with a time of 19:07.11 in the 5,000-meter run and Klotz with a distance of 122-2 in the discus.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the Keeler Qualifier in Naperville, Ill., and the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open next weekend.
