UW-Oshkosh Crowned The Titan Challenge Winner

Assisted by Melanie Brickner's two victories in the throwing events, defending NCAA Division III indoor champion UW-Oshkosh won the Titan Women's Track & Field Challenge held Saturday (Feb. 21) in Kolf Sports Center.

UW-Oshkosh captured the team title with 185 points. St. Norbert College placed second in the five-team meet with 122.5 points, while Carroll University finished third with 108.5, Northern Michigan University fourth with 72 and Beloit College fifth with 44.

Brickner improved her top NCAA Division III distance in the 20-pound weight throw with a measurement of 63-3 1/4. She also threw the shot put to a winning mark of 45-6 1/2.

The Titans won two other field events as Kasey Ederer leaped 5-4 1/2 in the high jump and Samantha Blue 17-11 1/2 in the long jump. Blue also finished fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.02 seconds.

UW-Oshkosh owned the winner in five running events, including Taylor Sherry and Becklyn Hunter who recorded first-place times of 9.15 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and 58.14 seconds in the 400-meter run, respectively. Sherry also ranked fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17-2 3/4.

The Titans' Danica Harrison won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:17.69 while Emma Link took the 5,000-meter run in 19:45.98.

UW-Oshkosh's group of Stephanie Jahn, Sonny Jenkins, Isabella Tremonti and Kylee Verhasselt combined to register a winning time of 11:58.55 in the distance medley relay.

Second-place finishes went to the Titans' Cassandra Hemmen in the triple jump with a skip of 35-9 1/4, Alesha Malueg in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.36 seconds, Karina Marchan in the long jump with a distance of 17-8 and Caitlyn McCormick in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.51 seconds. Malueg also listed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.07 seconds.

Elizabeth Abhold earned two of UW-Oshkosh's five third-place finishes after marking distances of 54-1 in the 20-pound weight throw and 43-7 in the shot put. Also finishing third were Erica Munyan in the mile run with a time of 5:27.45, Emily Reichenberger in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.93 seconds and Amanda Shober in the triple jump with a measurement of 35-1 1/4.

The Titans had five other fourth-place mentions, including Alyssa Ryan, Amanda Ward and Stefanie Weber who all marked a height of 10-6 1/4 in the high jump. Also finishing fourth were Stephanie Knutson in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.75 seconds and Melanie Wichman in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 48-3 1/4.

Finishing fifth for UW-Oshkosh were Ryan in the long jump with a leap of 17-0, Ashley Holicek in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.03 seconds and Taylor Pralle in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.10.

UW-Oshkosh's Melanie Wichman contributed a sixth-place throw of 39-0 1/4 in the shot put.

UW-Oshkosh competes at the WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 27-28) in Platteville.
