Titans Win Five Events, Take Second At Women's WIAC Meet

UW-Oshkosh won five events during its second-place finish at the WIAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship from Feb. 28-March 1 in Whitewater.

UW-La Crosse took the team title with 207 points, while the Titans scored 134 for second. UW-Whitewater listed third with 92 and was followed by UW-Stevens Point with 79 and UW-Stout with 60.

Christy Cazzola won both the mile and 3,000-meter runs, in addition to the distance medley relay. She posted a conference-meet record time of 9:49.49 in the 3,000-meter race. During the mile run, Cazzola finished in 4:57.35 for a four-second victory.

The quartet of Cazzola, Sonny Jenkins, Alesha Malueg and Alexandria Mahoney prevailed in the distance medley relay with their time of 11:56.58.

Also on the track, Kylee Verhasselt won the 800-meter run in 2:13.48. She scored a 5:03.20 for third place in the mile run.

UW-Oshkosh's final triumph came from Jecel Klotz in the shot put. Her flight of 49-9.25 is the best in NCAA Division III this season.

The Titans continued to add points in the relays, placing second in the 1,600-meter (3:53.36) and third in the 800-meter (1:44.54).

Other second-place results came from Kasey Ederer's high jump of 5-6.5 and Melanie Brickner's weight throw of 58-4.75. Klotz earned third in the weight throw with her 54-11.5.

During the shot put, Brickner placed fourth at 44-8.25 and Abby Martin took fifth at 44-8.

Samantha Blue clocked a 7.84 for fourth place in the 60-meter dash. UW-Oshkosh then received fifth-place performances by Megan Geldernick (9.08) in the 60-meter hurdles and Stephanie Jahn (58.99) in the 400-meter run.

The Titans compete in a pair of last-chance meets next weekend (March 7-8).
