Titans Set National Standards At Eastbay Invitational

Jecel Klotz won both throwing events as UW-Oshkosh placed second at the Eastbay Women's Track & Field Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 22) in Stevens Point.

UW-Eau Claire took the team title with 147.33 points, while the Titans were close behind with 146. In the 13-squad standings, UW-Stevens Point listed third with 124.16, UW-Stout fourth with 71.5 and Carroll University fifth with 38.5.

Klotz's winning shot put of 47-7.75 leads the NCAA Division III this year. She also took first with her weight throw of 56-2.

The Titans added the nation's best distance medley relay, as Christy Cazzola, Stephanie Jahn, Sonny Jenkins and Kylee Verhasselt clocked a time of 11:51.13.

Cazzola was an individual champion in the 3,000-meter run at 9:58.50. Danica Harrison gained a victory in the 5,000-meter run at 19:19.77, while Amanda Shober captured the triple jump with her mark of 36-5.

Second-place results were provided by Melanie Brickner in the weight throw at 56-2 and Elizabeth Pospyhalla in the 800-meter run at 2:19.89.

UW-Oshkosh finished 2-3-4 in the 60-meter dash. Samantha Blue posted a 7.93 for second, as Ashley Holicek scored a 7.93 for third and Alesha Malueg a 7.97 for fourth.

Blue also took third in the long jump at 17-1.25, as did Megan Geldernick in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.24.

Four Titans scored a fourth-place performance. Alexandria Mahoney used 2:21.41 for the 800-meter run, while Erica Munyan finished the mile in 5:38.82 and Leah Rendflesh the 3,000-meter run in 10:56.58. Abby Martin then took fourth with her shot put of 43-1.75.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Whitewater for the WIAC Indooor Championship on Friday (Feb. 28).
