Titans Overwhelm Falcons

UW-Oshkosh won its third women's tennis match in four days by trouncing UW-River Falls, 9-0, on Sunday (Sept. 29) in River Falls.

UW-Oshkosh, which defeated UW-Stevens Point, 8-1, on Thursday (Sept. 26) and St. Norbert College, 7-2, on Saturday (Sept. 28), lost only 22 of 94 singles and just nine of 33 doubles games in ousting UW-River Falls for the 19th time in 26 matches.

UW-Oshkosh (5-2, 2-2 WIAC) took control of the Falcons (4-5, 2-3) by sweeping the three doubles contests won wins by Kelley Hodyl and Samantha Koppa in the first flight, Alyssa Leffler and Michelle Spicer in the second and Taylor Johnson and Lesley Kutnink in the third.

Hodyl and Koppa defeated Isabella Kranz and Olivia Watzke, 8-5, while Leffler and Spicer ousted Kailey Courteau and Karyn Duddeck, 8-4. Johnson and Kutnink was an 8-3 winner over Gabby Potthoff and Abbie Reed.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh received easy wins from Johnson in the sixth flight, Leffler in the first, Hodyl in the third and Spicer in the fourth.

Johnson won 6-0, 6-1 over Duddeck while Leffler won 6-0, 6-2 over Kranz. Hodyl posted a 6-0, 6-3 result over Courteau and Spicer a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Potthoff.

The Titans also collected a 6-2, 7-5 win from Koppa over Watzke at No. 2 and a 6-4, 6-3 victory from Kutnink over Reed at No. 5 singles.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering on Oct. 9 at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Courts.
