Titans Double The Score Of The Blue Devils
Alyssa Leffler and Michelle Spicer combined for three team points to lead UW-Oshkosh to a 6-3 women's tennis win over UW-Stout on Friday (Oct. 12) in Menomonie.
Leffler and Spicer were partners during an 8-2 victory over Annie Sandry and Linsey Thisius at No. 1 doubles before splitting up to record wins at No. 1 and at No. 3 singles, respectively. Leffler took her individual contest by a 6-0, 6-0 result over Thisius while Spicer captured her individual challenge by a 6-0, 7-5 decision over Kennedy Kleist.
UW-Oshkosh, which has won its last 11 matches against UW-Stout, received its other individual victories from Hannah Peters and Ireland Slattery. Peters defeated Sandry, 6-1, 6-3, in the second flight while Slattery ousted Elizabeth Wahlquist, 6-2, 6-1, in the sixth.
The Titans (5-2, 3-2 WIAC) earned their remaining team point on the No. 3 doubles victory by Taylor Johnson and Ashlee Polena. The UW-Oshkosh tandem won their contest by an 8-6 score over Kayla Chamberlain and Mariah Kent.
UW-Stout (1-7, 1-4 WIAC) secured its three team points on a pair of individual victories and one doubles win.
Individual winners for the Blue Devils were Gabe Kelch in the fourth flight and Kent in the fifth. Kelch defeated Monica Micoliczyk, 7-6, 6-3, while Kent ousted Polena, 6-4, 5-7(10-7).
In doubles play, Blue Devils Kelch and Kleist teamed up for an 8-4 win over Peters and Jenna Peterson.
UW-Oshkosh visits UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 13) for its final dual match of the fall season.
