Henshaw Named Women's Tennis Coach

UW-Oshkosh Director of Athletics Darryl Sims announced Thursday (July 7) that Robert Henshaw has been named head coach of the school's women's tennis team.

Henshaw, who served as the team's interim head coach during the 2015-16 season, was selected to the position following a search that was narrowed down to three finalists.

"I'm extremely appreciative and thrilled to get the opportunity to continue coaching the UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team," Henshaw said. "I look forward to developing our student-athletes and building a championship caliber program that is on par with the other terrific teams at the university."

Henshaw, who has more than 20 years of tennis instruction, comes to UW-Oshkosh on a full-time basis from the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center, where he served as the organization's program director and head tennis teaching professional since 2013.

Last year, Henshaw guided UW-Oshkosh to a 5-9 record and a fourth-place finish in the seven-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Henshaw has held previous head coaching positions at Ripon College and Kimberly High School. He guided the men's tennis program at Ripon College in 2010 and the Kimberly High School boys and girls teams from 2009-11.

Henshaw also trained a variety of age groups as a tennis instructor and tennis professional at the New Canaan Racquet and Woodway Country clubs in Connecticut.

Henshaw holds a Certified Tennis Teaching Professional license from the United States Professional Tennis Association.

"We are excited to transition Robert into our full-time position has head women's tennis coach," said Sims. "He has a strong vision for our program and is the right person to lead our student-athletes, both on and off the court."

As a player, Henshaw competed for Neenah High School and was a state doubles champion in 1996. He was named UW-Eau Claire's Newcomer of the Year and Doubles Most Valuable Player in 1997.

Henshaw, who owns a 5.0 player rating, finished 2015 ranked among the top five men's singles players in Wisconsin.

Henshaw, a 2001 University of Oregon graduate, also taught biology at Bonduel High School from 2011-13.

UW-Oshkosh, which returns all seven letter winners from last year's team, opens the 2016-17 season at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Sept. 3.
