Titans Defeated In WIAC Team Championship Semifinal

UW-Whitewater went unbeaten in five contests to defeat UW-Oshkosh in the semifinal round of the WIAC Women's Tennis Team Championship held Saturday (April 25) in Janesville.

The Warhawks captured the three doubles flights by winning 24 of 25 games. UW-Whitewater then secured the victory with wins at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, UW-Whitewater won 8-0 decisions in the first and third flights. Megan Humphreys and Bridgid McGuire defeated Bailey Sagen and Erica Van Riper in the first flight while Rachel Siemon and Alexandra Talyansky ousted Hannah Bostwick and Paige Ganser in the third.

Alicia Beck and Jillian Wallace completed the Warhawks' sweep of the doubles competition with their 8-1 victory over Jessica Stark and Llora Waldman in the second flight.

UW-Whitewater concluded the match with individual wins by Talyansky in the first flight and Wallace in the second. Talyansky marked a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Van Riper while Wallace posted a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Sagen.

Contests in the remaining four singles flights were not played to completion.

UW-Oshkosh suffered its first loss in four matches and ended the season with a 10-12 record.

UW-Whitewater (22-4) went on to earn the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship with its 7-2 victory over UW-La Crosse in the title match. The Eagles advanced to the final with their 5-3 win over UW-Eau Claire.
