Titans Even WIAC Record With Win Over Falcons

UW-Oshkosh defeated UW-River Falls, 9-0, on Saturday (Oct. 11) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex to earn its second straight shutout of a WIAC women's tennis opponent.

UW-Oshkosh, which ousted UW-Stout by the same score on Oct. 4, opened its win over UW-River Falls (4-5, 1-4 WIAC) with a pair of hard-fought victories in doubles play.

Bailey Sagen and Erica Van Riper accounted for one of those difficult wins with their 9-7 triumph over Kelsey Hochberger and Makayla Newberry in the first flight. The Titans also received a tight 8-5 victory from Maggie Bolton and Hannah Bostwick over Molly Deering and Kayla Rosenow in the third.

UW-Oshkosh captured the No. 2 doubles contest as Kimberlyn Fernez and Brianna Theobald rolled past Anna Ebensperger and Hannah Klimek, 8-1.

The Titans won all six singles matches in straight sets, including Theobald's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Klimek in the third flight and Llora Waldman's 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Ebensperger in the fourth.

Winning by a 6-3, 6-1 score were Van Riper over Hochberger in the first flight and Bostwick over Deering in the fifth.

Other individual winners for UW-Oshkosh were Sagen in the second fight and Paige Ganser in the sixth. Sagen defeated Newberry, 6-3, 6-4, while Ganser conquered, 6-4, 6-2.

UW-Oshkosh (5-8, 3-3 WIAC) concluded its fall dual meet schedule with Saturday's match. The next competition for the Titans is at the WIAC Championship on Oct. 25-26 in Madison (Nielsen Tennis Stadium).
