Rams, Kohawks Register Wins Over Titans

Bailey Sagen and Erica Van Riper won twice as partners and once each as individual competitors during a pair of UW-Oshkosh women's tennis defeats on Saturday (Sept. 6) in Iowa.

UW-Oshkosh (0-3) opened play in Mount Vernon with a 5-4 loss to Cornell College (Iowa). The Titans then lost an 8-1 decision in Cedar Rapids to Coe College (Iowa).

Against Cornell College (4-0), Van Riper won her No. 1 singles contest with a 7-5, 2-6 (11-9) victory over Ariana Hudson. She earlier teamed with Sagen to pull out a 9-8 (7-3) win over Hudson and Shashanna Moll at No. 1 doubles.

Sagen concluded UW-Oshkosh's team scoring against the Rams with her 7-5, 2-6 (10-6) triumph over Kezia Koroma at No. 2 singles.

Cornell College took the early lead in the match with 8-4 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Gabriella Ferro and Julia Thome defeated Hannah Bostwick and Paige Ganser in the second flight, while Koroma and Katie Mintle ousted Maggie Bolton and Llora Waldman in the third.

In singles play, Moll topped Waldman by a 6-1, 6-1 result. The Rams also received a 6-2, 6-4 win from Thome over Brianna Theobald in the third flight and a 6-0, 7-5 victory from Ferro over Jessica Stark in the fifth.

Against Coe College (4-0), Sagen and Van Riper earned UW-Oshkosh's lone team point with their 9-7 win over Jordan Feree and Tamara Washington at No. 1 doubles.

The Kohawks took the remaining two doubles contests as Haley Resnick and Sarah Lasecki recorded the victory in the second flight and Amy Sebastian and Diannah Watson in the third. Resnick and Lasecki defeated Bostwick and Waldman, 8-0, while Sebastian and Watson ousted Ganser and Stark, 8-4.

In singles play, Coe College tallied a pair of decisive wins. The Kohawks got victories of 6-0, 6-1 from Resnick over Van Riper in the first flight and 6-0, 6-2 from Sebastian over Sagen in the second.

Other wins went to the Kohawks' Ferree in the third flight, Watson in the fourth and Lasecki in the fifth. Ferree topped Theobald, 6-3, 6-2, while Watson beat Waldman, 6-0, 7-6. Lasecki marked a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Stark.

At No. 6 singles, Coe College's Kaitlin Fosler registered the victory after Ganser retired after winning the first set, 6-5.

UW-Oshkosh remains in Iowa to play Augustana College (Ill.) on Sunday (Sept. 7) in Mount Vernon.
