Titans Post Narrow Wins Over Pointers, Eagles

Erica Van Riper, Valerie Langkau and Llora Waldman won twice in singles play as UW-Oshkosh posted 5-4 victories over both UW-Stevens Point and Edgewood College on Saturday (April 5) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

Van Riper played at No. 3 singles against UW-Stevens Point and scored a 6-0, 7-6 win over Hayley Schlueter. She then performed at No. 2 singles against Edgewood College and marked a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Anna Miles.

Van Riper also went undefeated at No. 1 doubles, teaming with Morgan Counts to tally wins of 8-2 over Schlueter and Katelyn Ansfeld of UW-Stevens Point and 9-8 (7) over Miles and Laura Olsen of Edgewood College.

Langkau played at No. 4 singles against UW-Stevens Point and No. 3 singles against Edgewood College. She defeated Molly Hendries of UW-Stevens Point, 6-1, 6-2, before ousting Olsen of Edgewood College, 6-3, 6-3.

Waldman competed at No. 5 singles against UW-Stevens Point and marked a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kayla Fuller. She then played at No. 4 singles against Edgewood College and recorded a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Brooke McBain.

UW-Oshkosh's remaining individual victory on the day belonged to Counts. She defeated UW-Stevens Point's Rachel Brown, 6-3, 4-6 (10-6), in the first flight.

Maggie Bolton and Hannah Bostwick wrapped up the Titans' list of winners in doubles play. The UW-Oshkosh tandem defeated Ashli Paulson and Ellie Wilkie of Edgewood College by an 8-6 score in the third flight.

UW-Stevens Point (9-6) registered a pair of wins in both single and doubles play against UW-Oshkosh (7-8).

Individual winners for the Pointers were Ansfeld in the second flight and Rosie Buckley in the sixth. Ansfeld defeated Bostwick, 6-1, 6-4, while Buckley ousted Andrea Larson, 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles action, Ansfeld and Hendries edged Bostwick and Waldman in the second flight by a 9-7 score. Brown and Buckley won in the third flight by an 8-5 result over Bolton and Larson.

Edgewood College (16-6) earned three of its four points on individual wins by Paulson, Morgan Wilson, Kristen Boone.

Paulson defeated Larson by a 6-1, 6-4 score in the sixth flight, while Wilson ousted Counts by a 6-4, 6-3 result in the first. Boone recorded a 5-7, 6-1 (10-4) win over Bostwick in the fifth flight.

The Eagles also won at No. 2 doubles. The flight featured an 8-1 victory by McBain and Wilson over Langkau and Waldman.

UW-Oshkosh returns to the court next Saturday (April12) with matches in La Crosse against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) and host UW-La Crosse.
