Titans Suffer Defeat To Blugolds

Brianna Theobald earned the lone UW-Oshkosh victory during the Titans' 8-1 loss to the UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team on Saturday (Oct. 5) at the YMCA Tennis Center in Oshkosh.

Theobald picked up the win at No. 2 singles, where she posted a 3-6, 6-1 (11-9) triumph over Maddie Johnson.

UW-Oshkosh (5-7/2-3 WIAC) lost a tight contest at No. 3 singles as Valerie Langkau dropped a 3-6, 6-1 (10-8) decision to Mary Frassetto.

Other individual winners for UW-Eau Claire (6-2/4-1 WIAC) were Katie Gillman in the first flight, Colleen McCullough in the fourth, Madison Rossebo in the fifth and Paige Kuepers in the sixth.

Gillman had the most impressive outing with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Morgan Counts. McCullough defeated Erica Van Riper, 7-5, 6-2, while Rossebo ousted Llora Waldman, 6-2, 6-2. Kuepers registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Andrea Larson.

The Blugolds won by a pair of 8-1 scores in doubles play. Gillman and Johnson beat Counts and Van Riper in the first flight, while Kuepers and McCullough topped Waldman and Maggie Bolton in the third.

At No. 2 doubles, Frassetto and Rossebo defeated Theobald and Hannah Bostwick, 8-4.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its fall dual meet schedule with a match on Thursday (Oct. 10) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex against UW-Stevens Point.
