Valerie Langkau and Andrea Larson recorded wins as the UW-Oshkosh women's team lost matches to UW-La Crosse and NCAA Division II Winona State University (Minn.) on Saturday (Sept. 28) in La Crosse.

Both players enjoyed their success during UW-Oshkosh's 7-2 loss to Winona State University (1-0) in the nightcap. Langkau won at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory over Andrea Krueger and Larson at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Katie Scruggs.

UW-Oshkosh suffered a pair of close defeats to the Warriors in doubles play. In the first flight, Morgan Counts and Erica Van Riper lost a 9-7 decision to Hannah Potter and Jessica Urban. In the third flight, Maggie Bolton and Llora Waldman dropped an 8-6 result to Brittney Freund and Andrea Krueger.

Winona State University won at No. 2 doubles as Aimee Basinski and Brianna Havelka shut out Larson and Hannah Bostwick, 8-0.

Other individual winners for the Warriors were Potter in the first flight, Urban in the second, Basinski in the fourth and Freund in the fifth. Potter defeated Counts, 6-2, 6-3, while Urban ousted Bostwick, 6-2, 6-2. Basinski tallied a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Van Riper and Freund a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Waldman.

UW-Oshkosh (5-6/2-2 WIAC) began the day with a 9-0 loss to league rival UW-La Crosse (4-1/2-1 WIAC).

The Eagles lost only three games in doubles play, with two of them coming in an 8-2 victory by Samantha Fleming and Rachael Wabers over Bolton and Waldman in the third flight.

UW-La Crosse won at No. 1 doubles as Olivia Hartwick and Abby Tresedder marked an 8-1 triumph over Counts and Van Riper. At No. 2 doubles, Bryanne Blanton and Kimmy Mrozek shut out Bostwick and Brianna Theobald, 8-0.

In singles play, Hartwick earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Counts in the first flight, Tresedder a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Theobald in the second and Mrozek a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Langkau in the third.

The Eagles also received individual wins from Blanton in the fourth flight, Kendra Woyahn in the fifth and Jennifer Graham in the sixth. Blanton defeated Van Riper, 6-3, 6-2, while Woyahn ousted Waldman, 6-1, 6-3. Graham defeated Larson by 6-0, 6-1 scores.

UW-Oshkosh wraps up its five-match road swing at Ripon College on Thursday (Oct. 3).
