Titans Split With Rams, Green Knights

UW-Oshkosh's five-match homestand came to an end when it split a pair of women's tennis contests with Cornell College (Iowa) and St. Norbert College on Saturday (Sept. 14) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

The Titans (3-2) defeated Cornell College, 9-0, before suffering a 6-3 loss to St. Norbert College. UW-Oshkosh began its longest homestand of the season with a loss to Carroll University (6-3) and wins over UW-Stout (6-3) and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (9-0).

Morgan Counts and Llora Waldman both won two individual contests for the Titans. Competing at No. 1 singles, Counts defeated Ariana Hudson of Cornell College, 6-1, 6-2, before ousting Nancy Chybowski of St. Norbert College, 6-0, 6-2. Waldman participated at No. 5 singles and posted wins of 6-1, 6-2 over Heather Schrauth of Cornell College and 7-5, 6-4 over Ariel Bloniarz of St. Norbert College.

Counts had mixed results at No. 1 doubles as she teamed with Erica Van Riper to mark a 1-1 record. The Titan duo lost 8-2 to Hudson and Shashanna Moll of Cornell College before marking an 8-5 victory over Chybowski and Erika Chitko of St. Norbert College.

The remaining individual and doubles victories for the Titans were all against Cornell College (1-4).

In singles play, Brianna Theobald won by 7-5, 6-2 scores over Moll in the second flight, Valerie Langkau by 6-2, 6-0 results over Anne Seng in the third and Van Riper by a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Dana Dowell in the fourth. Andrea Larson earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Erin Seely in the sixth flight.

Winning doubles matches against the Rams were Langkau and Theobald in the second flight and Maggie Bolton and Hannah Bostwick in the third. Langkau and Theobald shut out Dowell and Natalie Nish, 8-0, while Bolton and Bostwick slipped past Schrauth and Seng, 8-5.

St. Norbert College (7-1) won four singles matches and a pair of doubles contests as it defeated UW-Oshkosh in the nightcap.

The Green Knights picked up individual wins from Chitko in the second flight, Elizabeth Manlick in the third, Katherine Ake in the fourth and Anna Gosz in the sixth.

Chitko and Ake both worked extra to earn their victories. Chitko edged Theobald by scores of 6-4, 4-6 (10-7), while Ake narrowly defeated Van Riper by results of 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), (10-3). Manlick compiled a 6-1, 6-1 win over Langkau and Gosz a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Jessica Stark.

St. Norbert College won at No. 2 doubles as Manlick and Ashley Randazzo defeated Langkau and Theobald, 8-6. In the third flight, Ake and Maggie Berens beat Bostwick and Larson, 8-3.

UW-Oshkosh travels to Lawrence University on Tuesday (Sept. 17).
